I've inhaled more than a couple of bugs this Summer, so this equation shouldn't have been a surprise. In other rollerblading news, I'm only wearing my wrist guards about 20% of the time. They're hot, I'm not planning on falling on my head again, and I've never seriously injured my wrists -- see, I have a whole list of rationalizations. I had to lay down along side of the bike path for a minute today, I only had about a quarter of a mile left on my journey; sometimes you just need a break. While I was laying there, I noticed a family of bikers stopped down the path, and when I passed them I realized that they were stopped to take care of the mom who had apparently taken a tumble off of her bike. Decked out in biker gear, complete with the required helmet, she appeared to have road rash on her shoulder (an injury I'm familiar with) and possible scraped leg or two (also familiar). I couldn't tell if the helmet served any purpose whatsoever.
I started thinking about some study I heard discussed on the radio about whether or not humans had any memory of pain. I believe the conclusion was that they didn't which was supported with the example that if women remembered pain they would never have more than one child. I don't think that's an accurate conclusion. I think people remember pain, some people have a higher pain tolerance, however, in general humans are just careless. We are careless with our things, with the world, with each other, and with our bodies. Not to be a downer, but it's true. Why would we hurt ourselves in the same way more than once? Because we have no consideration for preservation, of anything.
On that pleasant note, I'm going to go eat a semi-healthy dinner and follow it up with some semi-unhealthy alcohol, thus, ensuring that I never do anything too good for my body.
Happy Careless Start to the Week!
